Dream role for Gill

RICHARD GILL, renowned for his ex­per­tise in mu­sic ed­u­ca­tion, is guest mu­sic di­rec­tor of Ben­jamin Brit­ten’s op­er­atic ver­sion of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

He joins di­rec­tor Rachel McDon­ald and award­win­ning light­ing de­signer Mark Howett in bring­ing Shake­speare’s play to life, per­formed by WAAPA clas­si­cal vo­cal stu­dents and the Faith Court Or­ches­tra

Gill was the found­ing dean of the WA Con­ser­va­to­rium of Mu­sic at WAAPA from 1985 to 1990, and found­ing mu­sic di­rec­tor and con­duc­tor emer­i­tus of Vic­to­rian Opera.

His work in de­vel­op­ing young mu­si­cians and cre­at­ing op­por­tu­ni­ties is recog­nised world­wide.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream runs from Oc­to­ber 12 to 17 at WAAPA.
