Mak­ing pitch for girls

KELSIE Oldfield (15) will be on a mis­sion to bet­ter her 42 not out achieved last sea­son with the Wem­b­ley Dis­tricts Ju­nior Cricket Club when she pads up for the new sea­son.

The Methodist Ladies’ Col­lege stu­dent will em­bark on her fourth cricket sea­son on Oc­to­ber 24.

“It’s a re­ally good fun team sport,” Kelsie said.

The club is re­cruit­ing girls for the 2015-16 sea­son af­ter field­ing four all­girls teams last year – T20 Blast for girls aged 612, un­der-15, un­der-18 and a mixed-age team.

Last year, the club re­cruited more girls than any other ju­nior club in WA, win­ning the Ju­nior Club of the Year award.

Club girls co-or­di­na­tor Margie Oldfield said in­volv­ing the girls re­ally got fam­i­lies in­volved in the club.

Oldfield said sis­ters of boys al­ready play­ing for the club had signed up so there was a real fam­ily at­mos­phere.

“It’s a great op­por­tu­nity for girls to play cricket as a sum­mer sport,” she said.

Four Wem­b­ley girls played for state un­der-15 and un­der-18 teams last sea­son.

The club is also re­cruit­ing play­ers for its un­der-16 boys team.
