Sausage dog snags prize for Billy

Western Suburbs Weekly - - News -

A DRAWING inspired by playing with his late grandfather and sausage dog Snaggers in Yallingup has made Billy Mahaffy (8) the only Doodle 4 Google competition finalist from WA.

On Thursday, the Cottesloe resident will travel to the National Gallery in Sydney to find out if his unique Google logo design will win his school, Scotch College, $10,000 worth of technology equipment.

As well as hoping to climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge with his dad Andrew, Billy said he was most looking forward to staying at a luxury hotel.

Visual arts teacher Karen Sabitay said Billy’s entry was posted on the second anniversary of his grandfather’s death.

“Billy’s design is very, very clever for a Year 3 student,” Ms Sabitay said.

“One of the prizes is that his logo design would be on the Google homepage for 24 hours, which doesn't sound like much, but then you think of how many people would see that logo over one day around the world. It is quite remarkable.”
