Paying it forward with kindness
ALMOST 400 middle school students from Hale School spent a day giving back to the community as part of the school’s service learning project.
Head of middle school pastoral care Julianne Nissen created and ran Butterfly Effect Day.
“The idea behind the day was to give our boys a meaningful, real world connection with their local community,” Ms Nissen said.
“By providing a simple gesture of kindness in our community, it is hoped that this day may inspire them to explore other ways to make a difference in the lives of others.
“With nearly 400 boys working together with teachers and parents, this day made significant real world connections that were measured by the grateful smiles, phone calls, comments, emails and letters sent after the event.”
Some of the 21 activities the boys took part in included baking and delivering 400 cookies to a homeless shelter, a coastal care clean-up at City Beach, and making gratitude cards.
