New scanner a state first
IN a WA first, Hollywood Private Hospital will be able to conduct CT scans during surgery.
Last month, the Nedlands facility received the new technology to assist in brain, spine and orthopaedic surgery.
Medical services director Daniel Heredia said the major benefit was performing surgery while patients were on the operating table.
“Prior to this technology being available, the surgery had to be performed in stages or the surgery stopped so the patient could be taken out of theatre to be scanned elsewhere,” Dr Heredia said.
Chief executive Peter Mott said the CT scanner formed part of an expansion project to include six “state-of-the-art” theatres and three new 30-bed wards.
