AFTER a successful open studio last year, artist Jann Rowley invites people to join her again for a glimpse into her creative space.
Using acrylic and oil paints on canvas and paper, Jann works with an intuitive process to create her art.
“As any artist would say, rather than you showing through the work, the work shows through you,” she said.
Jann has become interested in the ancient technique of pen, ink and brush as used in the traditional cultures of Asia.
She said the paper used in this technique is unavailable in Australia but found on a recent trip to Singapore that it is getting rarer.
“Traditionally the process of hand making the paper is passed down through families but young people are disinterested in taking up the family business,” she said.
Jann’s work has shown solo and group exhibitions for more than 30 years including overseas.
Her works are bought by corporate collectors such as leading banks and hotels, as well as private collectors both nationally and internationally.
Jann’s studio is at her home at 2A Riley Road, Claremont and will be open 10am-5pm on Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25.
