Rotto clean-up done by foot

Western Suburbs Weekly - - News -

YEAR 11 Hale School students and staff walked 50km around Rottnest Island, as part of the school’s challenge to clean the island.

More than 170 students and 45 staff took part in the Hale School Rottnest Challenge this month, cleaning the beaches and dunes on the western half of the island.

Corporal Ben Roberts-Smith wrote to the school before the event with some encouraging words for the boys.

“In many ways, young men in Australia have few rites of passage or opportunities to share experiences with their mates that provide a chance to leave their comfort zones and create life-long bonds,” he wrote.

“I am excited to hear of the new event Hale School is commencing. This is a great opportunity to get involved and one you most likely will talk about for years to come.”

Rottnest Police also joined in on the day, tweeting a photo of the boys cleaning up the beaches.
