Whitcomb sizzles in win

Western Suburbs Weekly - - News -

In the

Natalie Burton LAST Sunday, it was all happening down at the Bendat Basketball Centre when the Perth Lynx took on a championship favourite in the Dandenong Rangers.

The Rangers made a strong start and led the game in the first quarter, but the tables were turned after the Lynx girls knuckled down and threw out some big defensive punches to take a stranglehold on the game, winning 83-74.

Although the Rangers fought back in the second half and the game see-sawed, they were unable to find an answer to our American import Sami Whitcomb, who dazzled with her shooting prowess, which will surely put her in contention for the Women’s National Basketball League Player of the Week.

With 36 points and at least five fist-pumps, “Hot Hands” Whitcomb put on a show which had the crowd on their feet and sealed the deal in the Lynx handing the Rangers their first loss of the season.

Come along this Friday as we seek redemption against the only team that has walked away victorious against the Lynx – last year’s championship runners-up the Bendigo Spirit.

And if watching two women's basketball teams toughing it out isn't enough to get you along, how about a dancing Lynx, marching band, smoke machines, and possibly a free T-shirt? It’s a great night all round. Be there.
