Cottesloe Council buys rear lane for $1

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Near You -

COTTESLOE Council has bought Broome Street rear lane number 66 for $1 because attempts to sell the routes have failed since 2005.

At the September meeting, council staff said it was unknown why a 10-year-old offer that the council buy the land for $50 had not been completed when the owners had later offered the lane to the council for free in 2009.

The owners questioned a recent $5523 rates notice for the lane for 2015-16, which council alleged had not been paid since 2011-12.

It was agreed that if the council took over the lane, the allegedly outstanding rates would be cancelled.

Councillors agreed to a $1 sale, giving the land to the Crown for public use, and to pay $1424 in transfer fees.
