Theatre is not moving to Freo
MOSMAN Park’s Harbour Theatre has rejected moving back to Fremantle and reaffirmed staying at Mosarts, Lochee Street until at least the end of next year.
“We don’t have any issues with Mosarts, as it’s a space providing what we need,” Harbour Theatre president Rob Tagliaferri said.
Harbour Theatre solved uncertainty about Mosarts’ future when it became the anchor tenant by moving from the port city in April 2014. It is currently negotiating another year’s lease.
But 10 days ago it was reported the theatre may go back to the port city because it had technical issues with its new home.
Mr Tagliaferri said this was incorrect, and the theatre was ”happy” at Mosarts after it had “good feedback” from patrons since seating had been moved at its new home.
He said signing a lease after October, 2016 could depend on the theatre’s annual change of leadership.
Mosarts chair Libby Eustance said during lease talks the theatre had given Mosarts no indication it may leave soon, but if it did replacements could be found.
“They’ve got their 2016 season and the dates advertised, and they’re putting directors and casts in place,” Mrs Eustance said.
Mosarts venue director Renato Fabretti said he was not concerned because bookings at Mosarts were full, with theatre, arts events and private functions, and Mr Tagliferri had emailed him several days after the report saying it was not correct.
