Beer buzz takes brewer to national award
NORTHBRIDGE Brewing Company (NBC) won National Building Design of the Year earlier last month.
The 12-hectolitre microbrewery won its category at the Building Designers Australia awards in Melbourne on October 17.
Shenton Park designer D4 Designs proposed the $7 million project, which opened near Northbridge Piazza in late 2014.
D4 Designs director Doug Paton said he “had a feeling” about the awards. “It’s a huge honour and we’re very surprised,” Mr Paton said.
“Normally the biggest budget takes the award but I think the judges understood the complexity in the design and building to get that end result.”
Mr Paton said he started designing the Lake Street building eight years ago and there were 41 licence approvals in the building process.
NBC director Ben Rasheed said he was “thrilled” to be recognised with the “high-profile” award. He praised Mr Paton for integrating the building with the green space of the Piazza.
