FORMER Shenton Park Dogs’ Refuge Home resident Toby is one of the stars of a new HIF TV advertising campaign highlighting the role pets play in improving people’s physical and mental health.

Toby is blind and was eventually adopted by the refuge’s volunteer co-ordinator Lauren Shepherd and her family.

President Karen Rhodes said the refuge vets believed the small terrier had probably been blind his whole life.

“He spent three months in our trainer’s office after being rescued as he didn’t cope in the kennel and our volunteer co-ordinator, Lauren, used to go and visit him,” Karen said.

Toby is among rescued dogs from the Dogs’ Refuge Home that queued for their doggy bags at HIF’s hot dog sizzle last Friday that launched the start of the health insurance company’s new ad.
