Callum Costello tops competition
YEAR 11 Shenton College student Callum Costello is the WA winner of the Australian Economics Competition after competing with more than 9000 students.
The competition, run by the University of NSW Business School, encourages awareness of current economics and the development of general and specific economics skills.
Callum took home a trophy and $200 from the organising committee.
Shenton College principal Michael Morgan said the award recognised Callum’s dedication and commitment, as well as the achievements of his economics teacher David Filmer.
“This is a very high-level competition run by University of NSW,” Mr Morgan said.
Callum said he chose to study economics because it would prepare him for the “real world” and the concepts could be applied to the Australian economy.
"It’s a dynamic subject,” he said.
Callum said he is considering a career in commerce.
Shenton College students have been competing in the Australian Economics Competition for the past five years.
