Bats­man Jake in fine form

YOUNG bats­man Jake Whiteaker con­tin­ued his ex­cel­lent early sea­son form as Clare­mont-Ned­lands built a strong score against Fre­man­tle in Premier Cricket last Satur­day.

Whiteaker top scored with 86 as the league lead­ers put to­gether a fine first in­nings to­tal of 8-323 from 91 overs af­ter win­ning the toss at Stevens Re­serve.

The opener made his 86 from 200 balls with 11 bound­aries, tak­ing his sea­son tally to 245 runs, the fourth most in Premier Cricket.

He re­ceived good sup­port from Tim David (63) and Chris Brabazon (54) as the Tigers built from a strong plat­form of 1-144.

Else­where, Univer­sity is in a strong po­si­tion to make it two wins in a row with vic­tory in sight against Rock­ing­ham-Man­durah at Lark Hill af­ter day one.

Fast bowler Alex Pen­ter took 4-54 to el­e­vate to sec­ond top wicket-taker with 19 in Premier Cricket this sea­son, as the Mariners were rolled for 176.

In re­ply, new re­cruit Nick Maiolo (40) bat­ted through to stumps with the Stu­dents 1-57 at the close of play.

Strug­gling Su­bi­aco Floreat were buoyed by the avail­abil­ity of Perth Scorchers star Nathan Coul­ter-Nile in their clash with Bayswa­ter-Mor­ley at Floreat Park.Coul­ter-Nile made 52 and took a wicket as the Li­ons made 202 be­fore hav­ing the Bears 2-70 at stumps.
