Shopping strip not for light rail: report

Western Suburbs Weekly - - News -

SUBIACO’S main shopping strips were ruled out for future light rail transport at a committee meeting last week.

Mayor Heather Henderson said Thomas Street would be the only suitable location for light rail once Hay Street was changed to two-way traffic in 2017.

The Integrated Transport Strategy 2015 report said the State Government did not include Rokeby Road in its proposed light rail system, but the City of Subiaco should not discount it in its long-term planning.

Although some councillors criticised elements of the report, the transport strategy was unanimously approved.

Mrs Henderson said she wanted the motion approved to give staff direction.

“We sometimes sit on things until they’re absolutely perfect, and that is sometimes our undoing,” she said. Cr Scott Arbuckle said the strategy could be easily changed and amended.
