Bartender delights in U.G.L.Y tag
WHEN people call Subiaco bartender Sheldon Hendry ugly, he takes it as a compliment.
The Pure Bar coowner won the Leukaemia Foundation WA’s eighth-annual U.G.L.Y Bartender of the Year competition last week by raising $18,245 for cancer support services in regional areas.
More than 160 people took part in the competition, which stands for Understanding Generous Likeable You.
Mr Hendry is no stranger to the U.G.L.Y crown, after winning the competition in 2010 and coming second in 2014.
“Every 42 minutes, an Australian is diagnosed with blood cancer,” Leukaemia Foundation WA general manager Andrew York said. “We thank every big-hearted WA bartender who has helped fundraise more than $173,400, equivalent to more than 2167 nights of free accommodation for regional families during their treatment in the city.”
In addition to his trophy, Mr Hendry won a $3000 travel voucher, bar products and $7500 services for Pure Bar on Hay Street.
