Abs fab for sick children

POSING for the 2016 Perth Firefighters Calendar is the only exception Claremont firefighter Matt Launder gives for turning up the heat rather than extinguishing it.

Mr Launder and 13 colleagues participated in the annual Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) Foundation calendar to fundraise for the PMH burns unit.

“I’m looking forward to setting a new record of funds raised and getting the money to the children that need it as soon as possible,” he said.

“The impact of the money we have raised, even from last year’s calendar, is immediately seen in the form of new equipment (such as) the carbon dioxide laser and ultrasonic bath.”

PMH Foundation chief executive Denys Pearce said the Foundation’s eight-year partnership with the Perth Firefighters Calendar had raised more than $700,000 to help fund cutting-edge equipment and research.

“The equipment funded by the Perth Firefighters Calendar really does make a difference for these children, in terms of supporting their recovery from a burn injury to ensure they’re able to live full and active lives as much as possible,” Mr Pearce said. “We are grateful to the 14 firies who have bared their flesh in the name of supporting kids across WA.”

Calendars are available for $15 from the volunteers kiosk at PMH, or www.pmhfoundation.com.
