Animals show festive spirit

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Western Opinion -

PERTH Zoo visitors will be among the first to see some brand new baby lemurs this school holidays.

The zoo’s ring-tail lemur family is celebrating the birth of a new youngster in October, while the primate keepers are excited about the birth of a pair of black-and-white ruffed lemur twins.

The twins are part of a critically endangered species.

Spokeswoman Danielle Henry said the new arrivals were tucked up in the nest box but were expected to start exploring during the Christmas week.

The zoo will also be celebrating the holiday season in every way it can, with the animals’ food presented in Christmas boxes or concealed in specially created bon-bons.

“There’s nothing quite like watching an inquisitive bolivian squirrel monkey investigate a large Christmas present; it will delight everyone, including the grinches among us,” Ms Henry said.
