A time to relax and reflect

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Christmas -

COTTESLOE MLA Colin Barnett is fresh from hosting Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, at the Cottesloe Civic Centre.

He’s looking forward to spending some time at the beach and playing tennis during the festive season. What does Christmas mean to you? Given how busy life can be, I like to spend as much time as possible with my family at Christmas. I also use the time to reflect on the year that has passed and what lies ahead.

I find this is also an opportunity to contemplate our Christian values. Summer time for us is always spent at the beach with the dog and playing as much tennis as I can. What is your Christmas Day tradition? With four sons, their wives and girlfriends now in the family, we have a Christmas Eve tradition and this year it is with my sister Lorraine and other extended family.

There will be five grandchildren all about three years of age, so it will very much be a children’s party and I am expecting a mad house. What does your Christmas Day menu include? Lyn is planning a children’s menu for everyone, so I am looking forward to that. Your Christmas wish for 2015? For everyone to have a safe and happy Christmas with their loved ones.

Best Christmas present you have received or given?

The best present I have given is the Christmas giraffe I gave to Lyn a number of years ago. I don’t think Lyn particularly likes it, in fact she always asks, “tell me Colin, what role does a giraffe play at Christmas?”. But it still comes out every year.
