WEMBLEY resident Ilona Quahe (24) has become the eighth Rhodes Scholar from the University of WA in five years.

The Bachelor of Laws (with first class Honours) and Bachelor of Economics graduate received one of three prestigious Australia-at-Large Rhodes Scholarships for 2016.

Ms Quahe works as a Teach for Australia campus consultant and legal officer for Civic Legal.

She said she planned to study a Master of Science degree in Sociology and Master of Public Policy at Oxford University with an aim to improve educational equality in Australia.

“Studying sociology will deepen my understanding of the complex challenge of entrenched social and economic disadvantage, while public policy will give me the skills to devise solutions in the government or (non-government) sphere,” Ms Quahe said.

“My vision is of an Australia where all children, regardless of their background, have access to a great education and opportunity to determine their own future.”
