Shot man faces charges

MA­JOR Crime Squad has charged a 27-year-old Bayswa­ter man af­ter an in­ves­ti­ga­tion into an in­ci­dent on Tues­day, June 23.

About 8.30pm, the man at­tended a house on Sam­son Street, Mos­man Park.

It will be al­leged the man con­fronted a 23-year-old woman, whom he knew, armed with a firearm and a ba­ton, then hit her with the ba­ton.

The man al­legedly or­dered the woman into the liv­ing room of the house where three other men, aged 22, 23 and 26, were sit­ting.

On hear­ing the com­mo­tion, a 59-year-old woman en­tered the liv­ing room.

The man al­legedly or­dered the five oc­cu­pants to com­ply with his de­mands.

Po­lice, Tac­ti­cal Re­sponse Group of­fi­cers and a ne­go­tia­tor at­tended the scene.

It will be al­leged about 11.15pm the man ex­ited the build­ing with the firearm in his hand and ap­proached po­lice.

He al­legedly ig­nored in­struc­tions to drop the firearm and was shot by po­lice.

While on the ground the man pointed the firearm in the di­rec­tion of po­lice and he was shot a sec­ond time and dis­armed.

The man was taken to Sir Charles Gaird­ner Hos­pi­tal for treat­ment and later trans­ferred to Fiona Stan­ley Hos­pi­tal.

He is still re­ceiv­ing treat­ment for in­juries he sus­tained.

The 23-year-old woman suf­fered mi­nor in­juries.

The other four peo­ple did not re­quire med­i­cal treat­ment.

The of­fi­cers’ use of force in re­la­tion to this mat­ter has been ex­am­ined and it has been de­ter­mined their ac­tions were law­ful.

Ma­jor Crime Squad charged the man with one count of ag­gra­vated bur­glary and be­ing armed in a way that may cause fear, five counts of de­tain­ing an­other and one count of ag­gra­vated as­sault.

He has been sum­moned to ap­pear at Fre­man­tle Mag­is­trates Court on Fri­day, De­cem­ber 18.
