SECOND-PLACED Claremont-Nedlands has a tough chase on its hands in its blockbuster clash with Melville in round eight of the Premier Cricket competition.

Claremont-Nedlands will need 289 for victory this Saturday against the Storm after a tough first day on Saturday for the bowlers at Cresswell Park.

Jamie Roberts was outstanding for the hosts with 5-16, however many of the other bowlers struggled for wickets.

Matt Kelly took 2-57, while the spin pair of Dan Turkich and Haydan Morton was among the wickets too.

At Floreat Park, Glenn Stockden tried his best but Subiaco Floreat lost its fixture on first innings points to Perth.

The Lion took 5-66 to bring his side back into contention before a late flurry of runs from Perth ensured a victory as the Demons chased down 120.

A score of 120 was never going to be enough as they now look to create a possibility of an outright win this Saturday.

University will need early wickets on day two in its game against Midland-Guildford after a tight first day at James Oval.

Nick Maiolo was once again the standout with 68 at the top of the order.

Josh Mason scored 63 not out to propel the Students to a competitive 218.

Midland-Guildford is 1-16 in reply.
