COMMUNITY Newspaper Group photographer Andrew Ritchie’s photo of The Giants was named PANPA Best Feature Photo for 2015, so it is no wonder the event was a highlight for him.

Ritchie said the Perth International Arts Festival event brought the community together, “there was a good vibe and atmosphere in the city”.

“It was something that hasn’t been to the city before so it was fresh and captured the imagination of the city,” he said.

The award-winning photographer is preparing to shoot yet another Hopman Cup and said the tournament had improved since moving from the Burswood Dome to Perth Arena.

“It’s a world-class setting,” Ritchie said.

“It’s great having an international event in Perth… I’ve shot everyone from Steffi Graf to Boris Becker and it’s been good seeing how the game’s changed from then to now with players like Serena Williams and Andy Murray.”

Perth has also attracted major musical theatre shows this year, including The Lion King.

“It’s an iconic musical so it was good to see what all the fuss was about,” Ritchie said.

He said the challenge during 2015 was keeping up with the pace of media.

“Everything has to be instant now,” Ritchie said.

“When you’re at a job, you have to put something online straight away.”
