A MAN was stabbed several times to the upper body and face in the first of two armed robbery attempts in Subiaco on December 28.

Midland and Perth detectives arrested two 18-year-old men after they allegedly approached a 65-year-old man about 8.30pm near Hay and Denis streets and demanded he hand over his satchel.

The alleged co-offender was also stabbed in the hand before the men fled empty-handed.

Police said the victim walked to a nearby house for help and was taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital by St John Ambulance.

They also alleged that the same two men then robbed a 27-year-old woman on Sheen Street about 10 minutes later.

Police said the men kicked the woman to the ground while she was bending down to pick up her bag.

A witness chased and caught one of the men on Salvado Road, holding him until police arrived.

The second man was found a short distance away.

A Koondoola man was refused bail and charged with one count each of attempted robbery, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and aggravated robbery.

He appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court on December 29. The second man was taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital for treatment of an injured hand and was scheduled to have a bedside hearing later.
