Builder makesYa­gan Square deal

SU­BI­ACO builder Doric Con­trac­tors has won the ten­der to build Ya­gan Square, part of the State Gov­ern­ment’s Perth City Link project.

The mul­ti­mil­lion-dol­lar de­vel­op­ment, which will con­nect Wil­liam, Welling­ton and Roe streets, is set to in­clude green spa­ces, per­ma­nent mar­kets, kiosks, dig­i­tal me­dia, gar­dens and pub­lic art.

Doric Con­trac­tors chief ex­ec­u­tive Vince Mulholland said he was de­lighted the com­pany was ap­pointed to the project.

“As a com­pany, we em­brace the op­por­tu­nity of be­ing in­volved in projects that make a sig­nif­i­cant con­tri­bu­tion to their com­mu­ni­ties and Ya­gan Square will be en­joyed by visi­tors and the peo­ple of Western Aus­tralia for many years to come,” Mr Mulholland said.

Ya­gan Square is more than 1ha, twice the size of For­rest Place.

Plan­ning Min­is­ter John Day said ex­ten­sive con­sul­ta­tion was un­der­taken with the Perth com­mu­nity and the Whad­juk Work­ing Party dur­ing the de­sign phases.

“When it opens in 2017, Ya­gan Square will in­tro­duce thou­sands of lo­cal res­i­dents, tourists and city work­ers to Abo­rig­i­nal cul­ture and show­case the very best of Western Aus­tralian pro­duce,” Mr Day said. “In ad­di­tion to be­ing a new city des­ti­na­tion and events venue, Ya­gan Square will bring to life the iconic Horse­shoe Bridge to tell the sto­ries of the tra­di­tional own­ers and pro­vide a unique mar­ket hall food and din­ing ex­pe­ri­ence in the heart of the CBD.”

Doric Con­trac­tors also worked on the City of Perth Li­brary.
