New professional a familiar face
THE new professional at Cottesloe’s Sea View Golf Course is the club’s former assistant professional, Tristan McCallum.
“I couldn’t miss the opportunity to be the head professional and you can’t miss the course’s views and relaxed atmosphere,” McCallum (27), of Balcatta, said.
McCallum started playing golf when he was 10.
“Because my dad did it, and we went out playing at the crack of dawn at Collier Park,” he said
McCallum was the assistant professional at Sea View from 2007 to 2013, before moving to Lakelands Country Club in Gnangara, which he left to join Sea View at the start of this month.
His plans for the Cottesloe club include a daily, after-school junior development program that starts on February 11, two days after a series of ladies shortgame lessons.
“I like the short game – putting and chipping – because you can be creative and use your imagination,” McCallum said.
Club chief executive Simon Maynard said McCallum’s role would also boost others coming to play the beachside course, and he would build relationships with the Perth Golf Network that brings players not aligned to any particular club to play on Sundays.
