Sarah a calming influence
SARAH Tucker is hoping her two-pronged approach to improving physical and mental health will work wonders on her clients.
The Mt Hawthorn resident this month opened the doors of her new Wembley studio Nest Yoga, which offers yoga and counselling to manage stress, anxiety and periods of adjustment.
A qualified social worker for 12 years, Mr Tucker said the combination of yoga and counselling was designed to build physical strength through yoga poses and work on breathing techniques so stress and anxiety management tools could be used in stressful situations.
“For teenagers particularly, they have a lot going on in their lives - there are a lot of expectations, it’s a period of great change for them and they’re not always comfortable in their bodies,” Ms Tucker said.
“Hopefully they can build trust, self esteem, self worth and learn techniques to manage stressful situations they’re coming up against. There are so many kids with anxiety and they don’t think they have resources to deal with it, so I’m hoping to give adolescents strategies to manage everyday anxiety and build resilience.”
Ms Tucker said there were different strategies for child, adult and teenaged yoga classes, which included incorporating games and confidence building strategies.
“With a lot of things, you get out what you put in.
“So when people want to see changes in their lives, they need to come and put work in but that can be guided and encouraged,” Ms Tucker said.
“People often worry because they don’t know what to expect, so sometimes it’s about trying something that’s a little bit different.
“Sometimes you’ve tried things which haven’t worked and not every approach is a fit for every person either so you have to find something that works with the individual.
“With the link between physical and mental health, someone who feels balanced is generally going to have a better self esteem and physical health is greatly linked with mental health.”
Sarah Tucker recently opened her new yoga studio in Wembley.
