Always a best-cellar
PERTH’S wine lovers have a far greater chance of meeting and spending time with some of Australia and the world’s better known wine people than wine lovers in most of the world’s great cities.
In Melbourne, for example, there are dozens of high-profile wine stores and restaurants requesting these industry icons’ time when they are visiting.
Most of these venues will not get the chance to play host, as these sought-after visitors can only do so much.
WA has few stores that, for either wine knowledge or legal reasons, can host these events.
It is far easier here to receive invites to most events hosted by industry’s wine icons by joining just a few venue databases.
Steve’s in Nedlands, with its famous cellar space and unmatched range of Bordeaux and Burgundies in WA, is just one example of these wine event venues.
Jane Ferrari, Yalumba’s laconic, down-to-earth and no-frills brand ambassador, will host an Aged and Rare New Release and Museum tasting on Wednesday, May 18.
Steve’s cellar follows this with one of two extravaganzas for the year when they host Bollinger’s International Brand Ambassador on Thursday, June 9 at a dinner with the Special Cuvée that consistently tops our masked lineups of NV Champagnes and the two Grand Année releases.
There are tastings on the last Wednesday of each month after this, with a Cullen dinner featuring the new Kevin John chardonnay and Diana Madeline cabernet merlots.
Torbreck plays host to a dinner in July which includes their very expensive and international superstars, RunRig and The Laird.
August has another highlight with a cellar dinner of a dozen aged Bordeaux’s selected from the range of vintages purchased over the decades.
I suggest you join the databases for Steves in Nedlands, Old Bridge Cellars in North Fremantle, Grand Cru Wine Shop in Mt Lawley, La Vigna in Menora, The Re Store in Leederville and Swanbourne Cellars.
