Direct From The Mayor

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Streetwatch -

WITH National Volunteer Week upon us, I would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge the valuable contribution our volunteers make to the local community.

Volunteering is about giving, contributing and helping others – it is working together to make a meaningful contribution towards a better community.

Here in Claremont we are incredibly lucky. About 26 per cent of our community volunteers in some capacity.

This is compared to a 16 per cent average for the rest of the metropolitan area.

I am proud to be part of such a generous group and I would like to thank all of our volunteers.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, we will be hosting information sessions at the Claremont Community Hub and Library every Friday from 10am to 1pm.

Representatives from the Nedlands Volunteering Resource Centre will be on hand to provide residents with advice on volunteering opportunities.

Community and not-for-profit organisations can also register with the service to promote their volunteer positions.

Jock Barker, Mayor of Claremont
