Electric car free of charge for retirees

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Streetwatch -

OCEAN Gardens residents can now cruise around in style and in an environmentally friendly fashion.

The retirement village in City Beach bought an Audi A3 e-tron electric car as a share car for its residents so infrequent drivers can give up their cars and save money on insurance, maintenance, registration and fuel.

Chief executive Ralph Gore said use of the car would be through a booking system with no cost and was intended for short trips to the shops or doctor.

It will recharge overnight when not in use and has a range of 50km on the battery. Mr Gore said there were plans to increase the number of cars.
