Bullying help for parents

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Streetwatch -

PRESBYTERIAN Ladies’ College (PLC) principal Kate Hadwen will tomorrow night host the first Principal Presents session, which will be about bullying.

The sessions aim to inform parents and community members on a range of issues.

Dr Hadwen said she would present statistics on bullying and online bullying, information about social media, mobile phones and the law on bullying and sexting.

“It is important to inform parents about this because Mission Australia research in 2015 found young people are likely to go to them, not teachers, with an issue,” she said. “They only go to teachers 37.9 per cent of the time.”

Dr Hadwen said the school was constantly up-skilling its teachers so they can respond to the students with bullying issues.

“They want us to listen and to acknowledge the difficulties they are going through.”

The session is free and will be held at PLC’s Hazel Day Drama Centre at 6pm on Wednesday, May 18.
