Cr wants City of Perth investigated

OUTGOING City of Subiaco councillor Lynley Hewett is calling for the City of Perth to step down so an investigation can take place.

Cr Hewett said recent revelations over the City’s failure to declare annual reports and travel at the council had created doubt.

She said she believed the Department of Local Government needed to audit the council’s tenders and financial reports to ensure the correct process had been followed.

“The City of Perth believed they had followed the correct processes, but they hadn’t, so what else have they not followed correctly?” she said. “Anyone who has been on council knows any reports have to be voted on, and in this case it didn’t happen.

“It has created a lot of doubt in the council.”

Cr Hewett, who will be forced out of the council when the boundary changes come into effect on July 1, said many ratepayers were concerned about moving into the City of Perth boundaries.

“There are a significant amount of people who want to go to Perth, and many others who have said they want to move house, so they can stay in Subiaco,” she said.
