Po­lice al­lege seniors abused

CLARE­MONT and Mos­man Park seniors aged in their 80s have ap­par­ently been vic­tims of phys­i­cal and ver­bal abuse by other fam­ily mem­bers in the past week.

“We treat these is­sues as a pri­or­ity, be­cause any­one in­volved in look­ing af­ter an older per­son should re­flect the wider com­mu­nity’s val­ues,” Sergeant Carol Ver­non said.

It will be al­leged a Clare­mont cou­ple aged in their mid-80s were as­saulted by their daugh­ter (48) be­tween May 20 and 21.

“They suf­fered mi­nor in­juries, but any in­jury can be se­ri­ous if you are frail,” Sgt Ver­non said.

The daugh­ter, who does not live at her par­ents’ house, has been charged with two counts of ag­gra­vated as­sault and will be sum­monsed to ap­pear in court at a later date.

In Mos­man Park, po­lice al­leged the adult grand­chil­dren in a fam­ily ver­bally abused their grand­mother, who is in her 80s, sev­eral times in the past. The grand­mother’s carer is her mid­dle-aged daugh­ter, but po­lice have con­tacted the Vic­tim Sup­port Ser­vice to pro­vide the fam­ily with as­sis­tance.
