Police allege seniors abused
CLAREMONT and Mosman Park seniors aged in their 80s have apparently been victims of physical and verbal abuse by other family members in the past week.
“We treat these issues as a priority, because anyone involved in looking after an older person should reflect the wider community’s values,” Sergeant Carol Vernon said.
It will be alleged a Claremont couple aged in their mid-80s were assaulted by their daughter (48) between May 20 and 21.
“They suffered minor injuries, but any injury can be serious if you are frail,” Sgt Vernon said.
The daughter, who does not live at her parents’ house, has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
In Mosman Park, police alleged the adult grandchildren in a family verbally abused their grandmother, who is in her 80s, several times in the past. The grandmother’s carer is her middle-aged daughter, but police have contacted the Victim Support Service to provide the family with assistance.
