Support for networking event for vollies

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Western Opinion -

THE Town of Cambridge will host a free networking event for local volunteers next month.

In a rare move, Mayor Keri Shannon’s motion gained the support of the majority of her fellow councillors.

Ms Shannon said she had heard feedback that such events were helpful for organisations to find volunteers and felt it was worth giving it a go.

Councillor Tracey King said she also thought it was worth a trial. Cr Louis Carr was the only one to vote against the motion.

He told the Western Suburbs Weekly he felt the $8000 annual big breakfast event held every September was “a sufficient opportunity” for volunteers to network.

“We already do a fair bit for volunteers,” he said.

“The big breakfast is a big event for recognising volunteers.”

The Town also distributes a biannual club development newsletter to all sporting and community groups.
