Rottnest return for artist retreat

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Health -

ARTIST Ken Wadrop spent eight months living on Rottnest Island before he started art school.

Now, decades later, he is hosting an Artist Retreat on the island.

The South Fremantle artist will run the workshop from August 8-11 for up to 15 people for the second year.

Participants will spend three days on the ‘en plein air’ style, which means painting outdoors.

“It’s not a widespread type of painting in WA but as a movement it’s big in America and Europe,” Wadrop said.

“I’m a realist painter but this style is different type of work for me.”

Last year, participants produced about six pieces each over the three days. Works will be exhibited in the Salt Store on the island.
