Bringing out the animal

AUSSIE comedian Sam Simmons may split his time between London and Los Angeles these days but admits it is not as glamorous for him as it sounds.

“I flew in from the UK today and am currently in a hotel in downtown Los Angeles,” Simmons said.

“At Customs in the US I had a photo taken of me and I looked fat and old.

“That, coupled with jet lag and all the beautiful people surrounding me in this hotel foyer, and I’m feeling a bit vulnerable.”

Simmons is set to get on another plane when he flies home to Australia this month where, amid his need for an Australian breakfast, watching MasterChef and hanging out with his buddies, he will perform his 2016 Melbourne International Comedy Festival stand-up show Not A People Per- son at Regal Theatre on June 25.

Describing his comic style as “fullon, surreal and difficult”, Simmons said the inspiration for his latest offering was not that funny.

“I guess it’s just about my disdain for people and my love for animals,” he said.

“I’m so grumpy these days; I think I’m not afraid to call out the idiot and I realise I’m not at all perfect.”
