Saddle up for fundraiser to help horses

A FASHION parade will be held in Dalkeith today to raise money for more than 50 neglected horses that were seized by the RSPCA in April.

The Save the Horses fashion parade, which will showcase local designer Natalie Donovan’s fashion label, Wild Horses, and clothes from Three Bears, hopes to raise up to $5000 towards the rehabilitation and rehoming of the horses.

Event organiser Felicity Kermode said she felt compelled to do something after hearing about the horses that had been rescued.

“I’m a monthly donor to the RSPCA and I got an email saying how desperate they were for funds to help these horses and after hearing the story, I thought there must be more I can do,” she said.

“There were so many horses and such a large scale of neglect.”

The event will be hosted by Pip O’Connell from Postcards, and will include a silent auction, with all proceeds going to the RSPCA.

RSPCA WA corporate relations co-ordinator Deida Nicholls said the rescue operation was one of the largest ever seen by the RSPCA in the State, with a number of horses found dead and many too weak to stand.

She said the horses were found without any feed, water or shade.

“So far, this rescue has cost upwards of $50,000 and will continue climbing,” she said. To adopt one of the rescued horses or to donate to the cause, visit www.rspcawa.asn.au
