HIS MAJ TO HOST PARISIAN REVUE

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Weekly life - Tanya MacNaughton

DANCER Morgan Gruell will be radiating newlywed bliss when she performs in Cabaret De Paris at His Majesty’s Theatre this week.

The daughter of former ironman Grant Kenny and swimmer Lisa Curry married her high school sweetheart Ryan Gruell, an emergency service officer on north Queensland mines, in Noosa last month before honeymooning in Thailand.

Perth audiences will have the privilege of seeing Gruell in her only scheduled shows during this year’s Australian tour, where the lavish Parisian-themed revue brings the beauty of French cabaret to our shores with showgirls, aerial artists and circus acts who have performed on stages at Moulin Rouge, The Lido and other French cabaret revues.

The couple is no stranger to being apart when, after dancing professionally for two-and-a-half years in Brisbane, Gruell was offered an 18-month contract at Moulin Rouge in 2011.

“Ryan visited me as often as he could,” the 25-year-old dancer said. “Then I came back home for a year, went back to Paris for another year and now I’m back living on the Sunshine Coast.

“I went overseas twice last year with the Moulin Rouge and did tours for them in Singapore and New York. “It’s great because I get the best of both worlds: dancing occasionally with them but living in beautiful Australia.”

Gruell said it was her dance teacher who suggested she would excel in Paris revues because of her height and she “became obsessed with the idea”.

“My family were beside themselves excited when I got the contract,” she said. “My mum cried, Dad was excited and Ryan was stoked I got to pursue my dream and was just so supportive.

“Although people are always surprised when you tell them the backstage side of things is not so glamorous.”

Fellow Aussie Moulin Rouge showgirl Marissa Burgess will headline the show, which will have two topless performances and one covered.
