Car thief’s lucky day

A THIEF caught by a res­i­dent steal­ing from his car was re­leased with­out po­lice be­ing called at a John­ston Street, Pep­per­mint Grove home about 3.40pm on June 13.

“It was re­ported to us the thief told the res­i­dent ‘I’m sorry, I was desperate’,” Senior Sergeant Ton Booker said.

The res­i­dent had left his car in the drive­way with keys in the ig­ni­tion while un­load­ing shop­ping bags.

“He came back out and no­ticed a man go­ing through his car, with his iPad in his hand, search­ing the cen­tre con­sole,” Sgt Booker said. The thief rode off on his bicycle.
