Ex­er­cise helps ease side-ef­fects

A NEW pro­gram us­ing ex­er­cise to im­prove the lives of peo­ple liv­ing with mesothe­lioma has changed East Fre­man­tle’s An­drew Hick­son for the bet­ter.

The pro­gram, run by Edith Cowan Univer­sity re­searcher Carolyn McIn­tyre, is us­ing ex­er­cise to ease the side-ef­fects pa­tients can ex­pe­ri­ence from treat­ment.

Mr Hick­son said he does weightlift­ing, stretch­ing and bike ses­sions.

“It has re­ally opened my eyes to... how ex­er­cise can help your men­tal and phys­i­cal well­be­ing af­ter be­ing di­ag­nosed with some­thing like mesothe­lioma,” he said.
