Perth shines at Help­mann awards

Perth tal­ent took cen­tre stage at last Mon­day night’s Help­mann Awards cer­e­mony at Syd­ney’s Lyric Theatre.

Matilda The Mu­si­cal brought home a record 13 awards from all 13 cat­e­gories the pro­duc­tion was nom­i­nated for, in­clud­ing Swan­bourne-raised Tim Minchin who won Best Orig­i­nal Score.

Bark­ing Gecko Theatre Com­pany was awarded Best Pre­sen­ta­tion for Chil­dren for the com­pany’s sea­son of Bam­bert’s Book of Lost Sto­ries.

The Perth tal­ent con­tin­ued with a per­for­mance by WA Bal­let prin­ci­pal Matt Lehmann and bal­let mis­tress Sandy De­lasalle-Scan­nella of David Daw­son’s On the Na­ture of Day­light from this year’s Bal­let at the Quarry sea­son.

Tick­ets for the Perth sea­son of Matilda The Mu­si­cal, which be­gins in Fe­bru­ary next year, go on sale on Au­gust 10.
