AFTER a lengthy process, the Town of Claremont approved a traffic management and transport plan for Scotch College. It was passed at the July 19 council meeting. The revised plan addresses concerns raised during the initial public consultation period for the school’s Early Learning Centre in 2015 and matters discussed at the State Administrative Tribunal mediation sessions.

Improvements have been made to the control and management of parking and vehicle movement in and around the college to satisfy and address community concerns and expectations.

School principal Alec O’Connell said: “Traffic management plans are not easy, there are lots of challenges.”

He said the aim was to “decrease the fetish” of dropping students off at the school doorstep.

The revised plan also notes additional work on traffic management is required, particularly in Wright Avenue south of Saunders Street.
