Wests sweep to big vic­tory

PERTH-Bayswa­ter was de­feated 697 at the hands of Palmyra in the 2016 Pin­dan Premier Grade com­pe­ti­tion fix­ture on the week­end, while Wests Scar­bor­ough clinched the mi­nor pre­mier­ship.

Wests Scar­bor­ough had a dom­i­nant 76-19 vic­tory over As­so­ciates at the “Pig Pen”, Ben­nett Park on the week­end.

The dam­age was done in the open­ing half with Wests Scar­bor­ough run­ning in seven tries in the open­ing 40 min­utes be­fore flex­ing their mus­cle in the sec­ond half to run away with a 57-point vic­tory.

Wests Scar­bor­ough head coach Dwayne Grace said he was im­pressed with his side’s ef­fort in the match and proud of what his team had achieved so far this sea­son.

The home side got on the board early, earn­ing a penalty and scrumhalf An­gus Tay­lor put Wests Scar­bor­ough up 3-0 af­ter just a minute of play.

Dom­i­nat­ing pos­ses­sion and ter­ri­tory, Wests looked to stamp their au­thor­ity on the match and be­gan ham­mer­ing the As­so­ciates’ de­fen­sive line be­fore prop Nick McLen­nan barged his way over the line. Tay­lor con­verted to ex­tend the lead to 10 points.

The home side be­gan the sec­ond half as they fin­ished the first, go­ing straight back on the at­tack, with a bril­liant piece of play end­ing with Cody Coe Baker go­ing over in the cor­ner.

As­so­ciates showed some fight to go over for their sec­ond try of the match af­ter spend­ing five min­utes camped in Wests’ 22 but it was quickly an­swered, as McLen­nan went over for his sec­ond of the af­ter­noon.

In other games, Ned­lands de­feated UWA 67-19 and Cottes­loe beat Joon­dalup 27-23.
