Mentoring group given 300 bikes
THE Rottnest Island Authority has donated 300 bikes to non-profit group Dismantle after upgrading its hire bike fleet recently.
The Fremantle-based group supports young people with mechanics as mentors showing them how to service and maintain bikes.
The mentors aim to reconnect participants to education and employment opportunities as well as boost selfesteem and build tangible skills.
Pedal and Flipper manager Jodie McDonald said the hire place had bought 600 new bikes.
“They’re a unique Rottnest style,” she said.
“It’s an easy to ride bike that’s suited to Rottnest conditions.”
