Teen charged over burglary
AN East Fremantle boy (14) is alleged to have entered and burgled an occupied home in Lillian Street, Cottesloe about 11.35am on Wednesday.
“We will allege he entered through an unlocked sliding side door and rummaged through kitchen drawers before trying, and failing, to open a small box on a bedside table in a ground-floor bedroom,” Senior Sergeant Tony Booker said.
The boy allegedly went upstairs where he heard a resident flush a toilet. He then ran out of the house.
“The resident ran outside and confirmed with a neighbour someone had run from the house,” Sgt Booker said.
Cottesloe police called Regional Operations Group officers and a canine patrol to conduct a search for the boy in the area.
Perth Transit Authority identified a boy matching the burglar’s description sitting at the Mosman Park train station. The boy was charged with burglary and stealing, and was refused bail. He will reappear at Perth Children’s Court later.
