Global domination on the menu at festival

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Food - Belinda Cipriano

FOODIES are waiting in anticipation of Global Gastronomy at Garden City Shopping Centre from Thursday.

The four-day food festival celebrating Australia’s cultural diversity through food will include renowned chefs Guy Grossi and Russell Blaikie and former Masterchef star Marion Grasby, who will come together to plate up cuisines from around the world.

Grossi will start the festival with some Italian flair and fare, plating up authentic Mediterranean-inspired creations.

He said he was looking forward to creating dishes from his Melbourne restaurants, Grossi Florentino and Merchant, using West Australian produce.

“I’m excited about getting back to Perth, there’s such a great vibe and people are really into their food so it’s exciting to be part of this event,” he said.

“I think people are going to really enjoy it.

“There are some great people involved so it makes for a fun and smooth event – hopefully we will get to have a bit of play as well as work.

“Any event that promotes fresh

food and encourages people to source and use fresh ingredients is great for the community.”

Grossi, who has been keeping busy working with his Melbournebased establishments, has also recently been working on the first stages of his fellowship in hospitality training. He said his favourite dishes to cook were ones that took time and included good produce. “I believe in cooking with high quality produce and treating it with respect,” he said. “It’s hard to turn poor quality ingredients into something great. “I like things that take time to cook, things that need to stew or braise over hours. “Don’t get me wrong, a quick pasta will always have a place on my table but there’s something really rewarding about eating food that’s had time to cook and develop lots of flavour.” The event will also see shoppers enjoy a taste of France care of Blaikie, while Josh Catalano will treat them to recipes featuring WA seafood and Grasby will entice shoppers with Asian flavours.
