ALLURE Pearls co-founder Bill Reed got to hold the Melbourne Cup for the first time when it was flown in to the Broome Cup by helicopter on the weekend.

Mr Reed had the 1904 Broome Cup on display in his showroom over the weekend after purchasing the prize and donating it to the Broome Historical Society for its museum.

“The owner came in to my shop about 20 years ago and said they had inherited the 1904 Broome Cup… I bought it for a couple of thousand dollars,” he said.

“I’ve owned horses, it’s an interest I guess.

“It’s a great honour to have the Melbourne Cup here.”
