Homecoming party for Luck

Western Suburbs Weekly - - News -

COTTESLOE Golf Club is celebrating club member and 2016 State Open winner Curtis Luck (20) winning the US Amateur Championships in Oakland Hills, Michigan on Sunday.

“It was fantastic, and all-night viewing for some members, and we’ll sure be planning a good homecoming celebration for him,” club chief executive Troy O’Hern said.

Woodlands resident Luck was six holes ahead with four holes to play when he beat US entrant Brad Dalke.

O’Hern said Luck was well respected at the club, where he has been a member for 10 years, also for his maturity and mentoring of junior players.

“I think he gets his skills from his mother or grandmother, who were both good golfers at the club,” Mr O’Hern said

Speaking from the US, Luck told ABC Radio the win was the peak of any amateur golfer’s career and it showed to him why he practised daily. He did not indicate when he might turn professional. The young WA player joins two other Australians who have won US Amateur Championship, three-time winner Walter Travis and 2003 success Nick Flanagan.

Golf WA spokesman Tom Fee said Luck had topped the best amateurs in the world, and WA golfers were proud of his success.

It is hoped Luck will play tournaments in Perth over summer.
