Western Suburbs Weekly - - News -

KINGS Park tourists have been the victims of a spate of thefts that have included an American couple losing $US10,000 travelling money when their car was raided at the Fraser’s Restaurant carpark on August 23 at about 10.30pm.

“Unfortunately, they (the thieves) have been getting a large amount of cash from people just arriving, or just about to head back overseas,” Senior Sergeant Craig Davis said.

Police have recorded 23 thefts from cars in Kings Park and nearby in the past fortnight, which Sgt Davies called a “daily” occurrence.

The American couple also lost passports, a mobile phone, purses and $250 when the rear window of their friend’s car was smashed.

On August 22, thieves took $1400, 2000 Malaysian Ringgit, purses and mobile phones from a car rented by Malaysian visitors.

Cameras, $US1000, MYR1000 and passports were taken from another car used by Malaysians at the nearby Botanic Gardens on August 20.

Sgt Davis said the thefts usually occurred during late afternoons and early evenings.

Police were working with the City of Perth to have multi-language warning signs installed in the park. Call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 if you have any information on the thefts.
