Rapid change now making the news

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Western Opinion - Julian Wright - reporter

TECHNOLOGY is evolving at a rapid speed and we are fighting to keep up; particularly those of us in the media. We have gone from sourcing and delivering news to audiences to competing with our audiences to be the first to capture an event or incident. So what do we do? We adapt. At Community Newspaper Group, we no longer think exclusively as a weekly publication, but also as a daily online news provider. The evolution of technology is no more evident than in the trail of decades-old cameras and editing suites collecting dust in otherwise unused studios at Channel 9. Their response is to relocate after 51 years. The digital format means no longer needing to be at the highest point in Perth to beam out signals, so they will set up in their new CBD home within weeks. Who knows how many adjustments we will have to make in the next 50 years, but it will be exciting to go with the flow.
